ARCHITECT IDE KENICHIRO

Ide Kenichiro is the organizer of Designing. For the last 3 years Teku Teku has been joining his Design event. I met up with Ide today to talk about my plan and see what he thinks about it.

Cycling up to our meeting place I came up with the following idea.
1. Japanese kids make drawings
2. I copy the drawings
3. They put a copy of their drawing in an envelope and write their name and a message.
4. I take the envelopes to Holland where the kids get an envelope.
5. They look at the picture and make their own drawing based on what they got from the Japanese kid.
6. I copy the Dutch drawings 2 times. One copy goes into an envelope back to the Japanese kid with a message and one I will take to the next country. In this way a chain will form .

Ide's idea:
he seems to like it only would like the connections to branch out instead of making a chain only. The next Design event will be April 21st~25th and will be hold in IMS again. This will be a great location to start our event.

TEKU TEKU TREE COLLAGE IDEA

I have been struggling over the shape of the tree. I can't find the answer.
I meet up with Keishi today
Keishi's suggestion:
- Make the tree into a collage.
- Give every student a small piece of paper this will be placed in the tree
- The tree will slowly grow bigger and bigger
- This way the number of schools won't have to be decided before
- The tree shape is changable
- Its more creative.

FLORAL DESIGNERHANS HAVERKAMP

I get a phone call from my friend Hans.
Hans is a floral artist who gives demonstrations all over the world and produces some amazing creations.
I tell Hans about my travel / movie making plan. Hans is very enthusiastic. He suggest to make something and send it back to the previous school.

Hans tells me to focus on:
- Making connections between different cultures
- Showing different cultural aspects.
- Get the media involved. For me it might be difficult to get permission to video children but for the official media it will be much easier.

ARTIST SUSAN ROBB

I met Susan Robb 2 years ago in Seattle.
. At that time she was making an art installation called Toobs. I helped her setting up the toobes.
Susan is an artist who often makes art with a an environmental message. She also is an adjunct Professor, at the University of Washington, Seattle.
I spoke with Susan about my Project plan.

ENVIRONMENTAL & SUSTAINABILITY ENGINEERING STUDENT ROGER SOARES

I speak with Roger and he has the following idea:

Worldwide Youth ECO Poster Challenge
Concept: To create a unique idea that reflects both local and cultural
values/ideas.
Task: Students with help of their teacher are to create a poster that
demonstrates how to solve some local environmental problem.
Requirements: Teachers need a large poster like paper and some
coloring tools (markers, paint, etc.)
- Students in should create one poster per school
- Poster project should be an after school event not requiring more than a few hours total
Summary: Poster will be represented in a worldwide collage in
a video. *Students with parental permission may be allowed to be in the video.

Let me know what you think of this concept. This would be simple and would require
very little time and resources by the teachers/schools and would also be simple and focused.

Have been playing around a bit with Ecochan to see what I can make him do.
While playing with Eco chan I came up with the plan to make an Eco movie for children made by children.
From June 2010 I am planning to travel the world.
With Eco-chan (our logo) playing a big role in the movie. Showing children they can make a difference!

JAPANESE COOKING CLASS

The first movie I made for a total stranger. I went to a cooking class in Kyoto and made a movie of it. As a thank you I received a lovely hand made bowl.

Hmmm Do charts reveal your true self or are they deceiving.... Am I an alcoholic or not ?
For 30 days I tried to spend not more than 1000 yen a day....... not so easy it turns out but made it, and lost 2 kg. Yeahhhhhh!

For those interested:
This 14350 yen beer money includes 1 wedding party, 2 days outdoor music event, 1 BBQ, 4 times to the pub.

30 days (90 meals) I prepared 77 meals myself, average 86.5 yen a meal, didn't eat any meat or fish and made big portions and froze them. 6 meals free provided by school/friends. 7 meals ate out.

Well its an interesting challenge to take! You definitely will think twice before buying something from a convenie or vending machine. Only wish that beer would be cheaper ;-)

12:18 Suddenly people come from all sides and start painting me ( Mies) red.The idea is to surprise people.
12:25 Someone carrying a portable radio will come over and will start playing "Its getting hot in here" I will take of a vest and under it I will wear a T-shirt saying IT's GETTING HOT.
We will hold up a sign saying STOP GLOBAL WARMING.
We will hold up our telephones, from the radio the sound of ringing telephones will come. We will hold up a sign CLIMATE WAKE UP CALL

12:30 Prime minister Hatoyama

will arrive by taxi holding up his telephone too like he is talking to us on the phone. We will point at the sign; STOP GLOBAL WARMING
12:35.People will get the chance to be in the picture with Hatoyama, holding up a sign with their request.
We will handout papers with an email for people to contact Hatoyama themselves.

After we will have a picnic in Acros park.

GLOBAL CLIMATE WAKE UP CALL
All over the world, original activities called Flashmobs* will be organized.
(* “flashmobs” - fun, peaceful demonstrations in which participants assemble suddenly in a public place,blending in with the crowd, perform an unusual action simultaneously for a few minutes, and then quickly disperse)

These flashmobs, will draw attention from the media, world leaders and local people on the climate crisis.
Our activity will be important and special as we are the only one joining in Japan.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
- Have your face being painted red.
- Take pictures / video.
- Advertise this event, mail it to everyone you know, the more people that join the better!
- Get the media involved. We need newspapers / TV / Radio to know!

In January I started trying NOT TO USE PLASTIC BAGS at all.
If I do I will have to donate 100 yen to an environmental charity.

Every time I have the feeling I am doing well with my goals I will add another, so possibly (the max) I will have accumulated 12 goals by December. Goals like:
- not buying anything in a convenient store
- not eating meat.
